Crimson Clover
Plein Air Paint Out
Each May, the fields around my home erupt into crimson clover—an audacious, joy-filled sea of red that stops me in my tracks every single year. It’s a fleeting moment when the landscape feels fully awake, saturated, and generous, asking to be witnessed and translated through paint.
This 1–2 day Crimson Clover Plein Air Paint Out invites you to step outside at the peak of the season and work directly from nature’s intensity. We’ll explore how to handle bold color without fear, how to build harmony from high chroma, and how to simplify complex fields of pattern into strong, readable compositions. You’ll learn how to stay present with changing light while trusting your palette and instincts.
We’ll paint the clover fields on my own property during their brief moment of glory, when spring is at full volume and the reds are singing hallelujah. Weather permitting, the days are typically still and luminous—perfect conditions for focused, joyful plein air work. And if we’re lucky, the light may even gift us a rainbow arcing quietly over the fields.
Come ready to slow down, tune in, and let color lead. Spring doesn’t whisper here—it sings.
